Lime in San José
Founded in 2017, Lime is the largest and most experienced micromobility operator in the world. We serve more than 230 cities in over 30 countries, deploying more than 200,000 e-bikes, e-scooters, and adaptive vehicles every day. Lime riders have taken more than 300 million rides – 99.97% of which have been incident-free globally – saving over 3.1 million tons of CO2 from the atmosphere.
Lime has been a consistent partner of the City of José since 2017. In San José Lime riders have completed 2.4 million trips covering 2.3 million miles, avoiding over 600,000 vehicle trips and saving over 22,000 gallons of gasoline. San José was an early adopter of micro-mobility – number three of the 250+ cities Lime now serves – and has been witness to our growth and maturation over the years. Lime’s mission to provide shared, carbon-free, and affordable transportation aligns with the goals articulated in the City of San José’s Emerging Mobility Action Plan (“EMAP”) and Move San José, for “all people to have safe, affordable, reliable, and sustainable transportation options to access the opportunities and resources necessary to thrive, regardless of their race, gender, sexual orientation, ability, age, or income.”
Rider FAQs and Tips in San José

Riders must be 18+ years old and should wear a helmet.
Sidewalk riding is prohibited.
Ride in the street, in the same direction as traffic. If there is a bike lane, use it. Try the new separated bikeways in and around downtown!
Only one person at a time may ride an e-scooter.
Park e-scooters upright and out of the way of people walking. Don’t block sidewalks, doorways, driveways, or transit stops.
You must have a driver’s license or instruction permit to operate an e-scooter
Never drink alcohol and ride.
Yield to pedestrians walking, crossing the street, and biking.
Violations may result in warnings, additional charges, and platform suspension.

Riders can sign up by downloading the Lime app from IoS or the Android store. Once in the app, you enter your information and you will have the ability to begin riding in San José (and hundreds of other locations worldwide). Reminder, that Lime is for riders 18 years of age and older.

We encourage everyone to wear a helmet while riding a Lime e-scooter, though they are not required by law to wear in San José.

Lime Access is our global equity program that provides discounted rides to eligible residents. It is part of our core mission to provide sustainable transportation options to all. Lime Access members in San José will pay a discounted rate of $.50 to unlock plus $.21 per minute.
